After introducing a simulation platform, many enterprises address "can we use it" in the first phase, but the second phase truly needs to address "how do we manage it." A platform without governance mechanisms will eventually regress into a file transfer station.
Control Point 1: Unified Project Standards
If every team has its own conventions for project naming, phase breakdown, deliverable checklists, and result archiving, the platform cannot accumulate reusable assets.
At a minimum, the following fields should be standardized:
- Project number
- Product model
- Discipline
- Analysis phase
- Responsible person
Control Point 2: Role-Based Rather Than Person-Based Permissions
If platform permissions are persistently tied to individuals, long-term maintenance costs become very high. A more reasonable approach is:
- Modeling engineers have edit and submit permissions
- Review engineers have review and return permissions
- Managers have statistics, publishing, and archiving permissions
Roles remain stable while personnel change, allowing the platform to scale smoothly as the organization adjusts.
Control Point 3: Templated Processes Rather Than Free-Form Submission
Excessive freedom reduces the platform's binding force. For common business scenarios, preset templates are recommended, such as:
- Structural static analysis template
- Crash analysis template
- Thermo-mechanical coupling template
- Outsourced simulation delivery template
Templating significantly lowers the barrier to entry and also helps accumulate standard operating methods.
Control Point 4: Prioritize Indicator Management Over File Management
If the platform only stores attachments without storing indicators, it cannot support engineering decision-making. Key indicators that should be captured include:
- Mass, stiffness, frequency, safety factor
- Peak temperature, flow rate, pressure drop
- Computation time, resource consumption, queue wait time
These structured indicators provide a foundation for subsequent optimization, performance statistics, and design comparisons.
Control Point 5: The Platform Must Support an Audit Loop
Engineering simulation is often not only a technical activity but also a quality activity. The platform should be able to clearly answer:
- Who submitted a given result
- What the review comments were
- Which version was used for final delivery
As long as the closed-loop information is complete, the platform can truly support enterprise-level processes rather than serving merely as a personal productivity tool.
The goal of platform governance is not to increase process overhead, but to enable teams to maintain consistent methods, trustworthy results, and reusable assets even as they scale.
